Synopsis
The moment Jack Botwinik became enamoured of Belinda Cheung, he began to reflect seriously on his Jewish heritage and identity. Confronted with an ancient, rich and fascinating Chinese tradition that he knew nothing about, and that threatened to eclipse his own, Jack was challenged to identify what was ultimately special about his Jewishness.
While embarking with his Chinese girlfriend on a sincere quest for Truth across religions, Jack was keenly aware of his bias: he feared being cut off from his family and friends and from his ethnic roots, and hoped that Belinda would convert to Judaism.
In seeking to show Belinda the beauty, depth and meaningfulness of his religion, Jack came to discover these things himself. And as Belinda was being drawn to the teachings of Judaism, it helped Jack validate his own changing worldview and way of life.
